| In 1986 & 1987 Skip was very active with the South Puget Sound College welding department. He organized and developed the college's first welding club, was responsible for the planning and promotion of the first annual road rally, "Tour de Olympia," and assisted with school's fundraising program. He also founded and was president of the racing team. This team was the first college team in the United States to win a SCCA GT-1 championship.
